If your gums are barely seen when you smile or if your teeth are not as white and regular as you want and more importantly, if you seek self-confident and more aesthetic smile, laminate veneers can be a good option for you…
We talked with Dt. Banu Okur Çakmakçı from Oral and Dental Health Department of Hisar Hospital about aesthetic dentistry…
Emphasizing the fact that dentistry not only deals with oral and dental health, but also with dental aesthetics, Dt. Çakmakçı says ‘Laminate veneer, also called laminate porcelain, is the most common type of treatment used in aesthetic dentistry. On the contrary to other porcelain teeth modalities, this method requires removing very minimal enamel tissue and thus, the tooth exposes to far lesser damage. Laminate veneers are manufactured from strong and enduring materials that do not change in color. More aesthetic outcomes are enabled, as porcelain veneers are very thin, translucent and non-metallic. Accordingly, a minor intervention leads to health and natural smile within a very short time.
Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Aesthetics?
If your teeth gums are barely seen when you smile,
If there are deformities in your teeth,
If the gap between your teeth makes you feel dissatisfied,
If your teeth are crooked, but you avoid orthodontic treatment,
If your teeth are not as white as you want despite tooth whitening therapies,
If you have worn dental restorations in your anterior teeth,
If surfaces of your teeth are eroded,
If you have broken teeth,
And most importantly, if you want a brand new smile,
And, if your answer is yes for any one of below written statements, dental aesthetics procedures may help you.
How is it applied?
First, the teeth and the jaw are measured. When you visit the laboratory, your teeth are untouched, but the possible result is demonstrated three dimensionally, and trials are done. The procedure is started, after you and your dentist make a joint decision. Your teeth are reasonably eroded under local anesthesia and thus, your temporary teeth are prepared. It is necessary to wait for delivery of the laminate veneer by the laboratory. The teeth are placed in your mouth and their harmony with the face and the mouth is checked. If expectations are met, they are adhered using special adhesives. Laminate veneers are far more resistant to staining and wearing. Laminate veneers can be used for 15 to 20 years without a problem, if you follow a good and regular dental care, avoid eating solid foods and eliminate bad habits, such as biting nails. Anyhow, you need to visit your dentist once every 4 to 5 years. Thus, the likelihood of future dental problems can be eliminated.
